On the last working Friday of every month in over 70 cities worldwide, cyclists take to the streets campaigning for a better future for ourselves, our cities and for everyone.

Critical Mass is a global, organised coincidence where hundreds of cyclists, roller bladers and skate boarders travel in the same direction, at the same time. We celebrate human power with music and movement on the streets. Bring your own wheels and music makers for a couple of hours of fun and excitement as we travel around the centre of Sydney.

ORGANISE

* There are email lists you can join at
   http://lists.cat.org.au
* We meet to discuss the next Mass on the Tuesday 10 days before each ride. Time and location is advertised on the email list.

bike picture, we're not blocking traffic we are traffic

Bikes are the most energy efficient form of transport and the most appropriate mode of transport for the city.

Thank you for waiting for us. It is important for us to stay together for our safety. We would like to feel safe on our roads all the time.

Critical Mass is not an exercise to annoy motorists. The point is to show everyone - commuters, pedestrians and residents that there is a better way to get around. Once people see how much fun cycling can be, and how much safer and more pleasant it makes their streets, the thinking behind our car-oriented transport policies will be challenged.

Next time you go for a walk or ride, take a few minutes to look around and picture your city free of cars. What would the streets be filled with? What would your city smell like, sound like, and feel like without cars? If you can envision a street filled with hundreds of bicycles, casually riding down your street, breathing clean air, the serenity broken only by conversations between riders, and the occasional chime of a bell, then you've just pictured Critical Mass.

Please remember: always give cyclists at least one metre clearance and slow down when passing; we endeavour to be considerate towards motorists, but sometimes we may feel the need to take our entitlement of a full lane - please respect our need to feel safe

thanks for waiting
