I was only at the rally briefly (had to work), but there was a P*lice line keeping people off the George St footpath, more of them keeping people off the Town Hall entry steps (including me, so it wasn't just kids they were against). Overall about 200 cops to about 2000 kids. If only the state government cared this much all the time - I'm sure our schools would work so much better with a 1:10 staff:student ratio.

Lots of kids of "middle eastern appearance", also lots of kids of "asian appearance" and a disturbing number of " british appearance". You'd be tempted to think this was a country of immigrants. Lots of young, excited kids discovering that the friendly P*lice are there to push them round and piss them off. Even at the early stage that I was there.

(This image has been digitally flipped to make the flag more readable) The token pro-war protestor. Flanked, of course, by two TV cameras. Someone rang ABC 702 later claiming to be "one of 45 pro-war protestors" and got a very sympathetic hearing. I only saw the one...
