Speedbikes in Melbourne

I went down to Melbourne to see if Jeff and Trisled could get the Dempsey-MacCready prize. They failed, partly due to weather and partly because it's a very ambitious project. As it turned out the attempts overseas were somewhat more successful with "fast" Freddy Markham setting a new record of 85km in the hour. He's 50... more details

At the velodrome with Sled Edge ready for a practice run. Note the fine, sunny weather. Inside the bathtub is a bike! Jeff riding the bathtub to warm up Note that even from slightly above the bike you can only see the rim of Jeff's helmet - he can't see the road in front of him at all. That's what the camera is for, but it's hard to balance using just a camera. Looking over jeff's shoulder at the screen. No, he doesn't get in-flight movies. Unless you like road movies... Launching the bike once the lid on takes a couple of helpers The white strips are so we don't damage the nice shiny paint job if... ...something happens. Sunday. Meet at a cafe in the rain to discuss whether it's worth going to the track. Bike snug in the van. Bike staying snug in the van... four days to prep it, if we ride it we (by which I mean Ben) have to start all over again. Launching "Whoops", which is (I think) made directly from the Kyle Edge molds except that Tim added a naca duct in front of the windscreen (and Ben added the windscreen - Kyle edge is a camera bike) Ben looking at wind speed with his pocket anemometer. We were getting gusts to 15 knots which makes the speed bikes very exciting to ride. Tim doing a few laps since we're at the track. Wind and rain meant he was all over the track. After he dropped it Tim took the rear fairing off and rode the last bit head out - much more stable, heaps better visibility. Wet spot? What wet spot?
