New Years 2007 (Peats Ridge Festival)

Went up to Peats Ridge Festival to be part of the bike crew, organised by Allan Brown to provide recycled bikes to help people get around the site. Which worked very well (as you'd expect) and they were very popular even at $5/hr. Which we had to charge just to stop all the bikes disappearing. We also ran workshops and a courier service, well mostly Dave from Cheeky Monkey gave a workshop on bike maintenance and I talked to individuals about load carrying using bikes. Plus there was music and other workshops, so I spent a lot of time wandering round poking my nose into things that looked or sounded interesting and enjoying myself. Which was all good. Riding in to the festival from hawkesbury Station (27km, largely uphill but that's "Australian Uphill", challenging mostly to the overloaded and unfit). Peats Ridge is not the place for stilettos The obnoxious little 4 wheel motorbikes were seen far too often, and ridden by security with no real oversight. bah! Red man wearing white singlet. No, really. Jollywood reminded me a lot of the better side of Newtown during Reclaim The Streets. ChrisBen were there with families and bikes.
